Tips for a Winning Shot

THE ART OF NOTICING
Sometimes, beauty hides in plain sight. It’s about pausing, breathing, and really seeing. Step outside at the YMCA, take a moment, and capture the tiny wonders that surround you.

FIND YOUR LIGHT
In photography, light is the painter’s brushstroke. Embrace natural light, experiment with shadows, and let the magic happen. For a bright photo, position yourself with the light at your back. For a moodier vibe, shoot into the light.

RULE OF THIRDS
The “Rule of Thirds” is a timeless photography tip. Envision a grid over your photo. Position your subject along one-third of the grid. Experiment with various compositions, and don’t hesitate to break the rule of thirds! Photography is an art, and there’s no wrong approach.

FIND YOUR HORIZONTAL LINE
Just like the “Rule of Thirds,” envision a horizontal line across your photo and align your horizon with it. This creates a visually pleasing composition. Explore angles, discover your horizon, and let your imagination lead the way.

Capture your photo at the YMCA of the Rockies – Estes Park Center or Snow Mountain Ranch! Whether it’s a beautiful sunset, a serene winter hike, or a moment filled with laughter – discover the wonders that make these places truly magical. Feel free to use a camera, your phone, a polaroid – whatever works best for you.

HOW TO ENTER
Submit your entries between FEBRUARY 1ST AND 24TH.
