Our Nature Workshops cater to adult learners, providing an engaging and hands-on approach to exploring the wonders of the natural world in the beautiful setting of the Rocky Mountains.
Nature Workshop: Elk Ecology with Steve Johnson
Participants will explore the amazing world of the Wapati (elk), in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. These majestic creatures have a fascinating history from their migration into this region to the record population levels of today. Learn about the survival techniques of the elk, their annual patterns, their impact on the environment, and their interactions with humans. Study elk behavior in breeding season (rut), elk anatomy and their history. Listen to the bull elk bugle, and to the females sounding off as they respond.
Workshop Times:
Sunday, September 28: 1-4:30 PM
Monday, September 29: 8 AM-4 PM
Workshop registration is $195. Registration includes small group instruction and transportation (if applicable). Lodging and meals are not included. After registration you will receive an email two weeks prior to the workshop with a syllabus and supplies/items needed.

About the Instructor:
Steve Johnson is a long time Estes Park resident. He has been a former trails worker and is a current environmental educator for the YMCA of the Rockies leading people through experiential learning. Steve has 25 years of experience as an outdoor educator and 12 years of experience as a science teacher in the Estes Park Schools. He has many seasons of winter camping experience while a Boy Scout and a Boy Scout leader. He has a life time of experience as an outdoor enthusiast!
