Nature Workshop: Colorado Life Zones

Our Nature Workshops cater to adult learners, providing an engaging and hands-on approach to exploring the wonders of the natural world in the beautiful setting of the Rocky Mountains.

Colorado Life Zones with Steve Johnson
Spend time in each local life zone gaining insights and discovering connections between plants, animals, geology, and climate.

Driving and hiking to representative locations, this course will introduce participants to the unique species and conditions that determine habitats, and ecosystems. Days will be highlighted by locating keystone species and visiting both little, and well-known locations. Anticipate learning about the key differences between life zones and the reasons altitude has such a large effect on the species found as you move up the mountains in elevation.

Friday, May 30: 8:30am-4:30pm
Saturday, May 31: 7:30am-4pm

Workshop registration is $195.
Registration includes small group instruction and transportation (if applicable). Lodging and meals are not included. After registration you will receive an email two weeks prior to the workshop with a syllabus and supplies/items needed.

About the Instructor:
Steve Johnson is a long time Estes Park resident. He has been a former trails worker and is a current environmental educator for the YMCA of the Rockies leading people through experiential learning. Steve has 25 years of experience as an outdoor educator and 12 years of experience as a science teacher in the Estes Park Schools. He has many seasons of winter camping experience while a Boy Scout and a Boy Scout leader. He has a life time of experience as an outdoor enthusiast!
