Most mountain trips start with logistics. Flight searches. Bag fees. A drive to the airport that takes longer than the flight.

This one starts with a car key.

Pack Friday afternoon. Be checked in by dinner. Wake up Saturday in the Rockies. Sunday you're home with the kind of reset that usually takes a week of PTO.

No airport. No connections. No all-day travel day. Just I-25, a mountain pass, and a parking spot with your name on it.

Pick Your Drive. Pick Your Mountain.

View of Estes Park Center and Mt. Ypsilon

Estes Park Center

North on I-25, west on US-36. About 90 minutes from downtown Denver, longer from the south suburbs. The road climbs through Lyons and the foothills, and Estes Park appears around a bend — the Stanley Hotel on the hill, the mountains behind it.

  • Best for: easy access to Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Drive condition: mostly paved, mostly easy, mostly year-round
Snow Mountain in the fall

Snow Mountain Ranch

West on I-70, north on US-40 over Berthoud Pass. About an hour and 45 minutes from Denver. The pass climbs above 11,000 feet — winter driving requires snow tires or chains, summer driving requires open windows and an eye out for the view.

  • Best for: wide-open quiet, Winter Park skiing, Continental Divide views
  • Drive condition: easy in summer; check CDOT conditions in winter
