Whether you're planning a spring getaway or a family trip to the Rockies, April at YMCA of the Rockies is full of adventure. Enjoy guided hikes, family activities, indoor recreation, crafts, seasonal programming, and outdoor experiences that highlight the early spring beauty of the mountains. Both Estes Park Center and Snow Mountain Ranch offer activities designed for guests of all ages.

Local Events: Bigfoot Days 

Experience the fun and mystery of Estes Park Bigfoot Days, happening April 24–25, 2026! This family-friendly festival celebrates everything bigfoot and "squatchy," with appearances from Bigfoot celebrities and experts, live music, outdoor activities, craft and food vendors, and even a Bigfoot calling contest. 

● Bigfoot BBQ: Friday, April 24 Kick off the weekend with a Bigfoot-themed dinner featuring food, drinks, music, photos, and a chance to meet special guests. Tickets are limited to 150, so make sure to yours reserve early! 

● Bigfoot Half Marathon & 5K: Saturday, April 25 Start your day with a scenic race through the mountains. The finish line downtown leads right into the festival, complete with local brews and family-friendly activities. 

● Bigfoot Days Festival: Saturday, April 25 This free outdoor festival has it all: live music, axe throwing, inflatable games, talks from Bigfoot TV celebrities, Colorado Bigfoot stories, and lots of craft and food vendors. 

● Bigfoot Feature Film - SQUATCH: Saturday, April 25 End the day with a Hollywood-style movie premiere at the Historic Park Theatre. Enjoy the red carpet, photo and autograph opportunities with the actors, a discussion panel, and giveaways. 

Guided Hikes Near Rocky Mountain National Park 

April is a great time to explore trails around Estes Park. Guided hikes depart from the Boone Family Mountain Center and cover everything from moderate scenic routes to more challenging alpine terrain. Popular destinations this month include Emerald Lake, Gem Lake, and winter-access routes to Hidden Falls. Knowledgeable guides lead each hike, ensuring a safe and enjoyable way to experience the Rockies in early spring. 

Horseback Riding at Snow Mountain Ranch 

For a classic Rocky Mountain adventure, try horseback riding at Snow Mountain Ranch. Guided trail rides take you through scenic meadows, forest paths, and gentle hills, perfect for both beginners and experienced riders. Spring is a beautiful time to ride, with early blooms and crisp mountain air adding to the experience. Riders of all ages can enjoy this hands-on way to connect with the outdoors.
