The Heart of the Campus: Dedicating the Vice Family Recreation and Sports Park
August 2025
Before guests unpack a bag or check into their cabin, they walk through the Vice Family Recreation and Sports Park. In 1907, when ninety-three men gathered here for the first summer school at what would become YMCA of the Rockies; this field has been where the experience begins.
"This park is the heart of the campus. It's the first thing people see when they arrive and the last when they leave. We've been blessed to enjoy this place ourselves, thanks to generous donors before us — and wanted to give back to this community that means so much to us."
— Marc Vice, Lead Donor
Dedicated in July 2025, the newly named Vice Family Recreation and Sports Park features new pickleball courts, updated game and gathering areas, and improvements to existing spaces including the fire ring, basketball courts, and tennis courts.
The ceremony also recognized Don and Kay Bishop, whose gift was honored with the refurbished Bishop's Fellowship Fire Ring, and Bruce and Sheryl Benbrook, for whom the Benbrook Pickleball Courts were named.
"The area has served guests for over a century, becoming a place where memories are made, friendships grow, and people gather in the beauty of the mountains. With these improvements, this cherished space is now more accessible and ready to serve guests for another century."
— Julie Watkins, President and CEO, YMCA of the Rockies
