How YMCA of the Rockies creates lasting impact
This dream began in 1907 when six hikers set out to find the ideal location for a YMCA staff training center. After an alpine trek, the group landed at what was then known as the Wind River Lodge near Estes Park, Colorado — isolated from an increasingly demanding and noisy world. What started as a training ground became something no one fully anticipated: a place where transformation happens quietly, between people, in the presence of mountains.
Over the decades, YMCA of the Rockies grew into two full campuses and an overnight summer camp — spanning more than 5,800 acres and becoming the largest YMCA family retreat and conference center in the world. Today, more than 260,000 people find their way here every year: families, youth groups, corporate teams, faith communities, and individuals who need what the mountains offer.
Our world is changing quickly. More families, groups, and youth than ever are searching for welcoming spaces and life-giving experiences. The YMCA of the Rockies is here to meet that need — but only if we build and sustain the infrastructure and programs to do so. That is why Climbing Higher exists.
A community in motion
YMCA of the Rockies is not a single program or a single facility. It is an ecosystem — a living network of guests, members, donors, staff, programs, and places that reinforce and sustain one another. When a donor funds a scholarship, a child attends camp. When that child grows up, they bring their family. When a family returns, they become members and donors.
Climbing Higher is an investment in every layer of that ecosystem — strengthening the foundation so the cycle of impact can continue for another century.
