Hempel Auditorium and Kathie Mennel Amphitheater: Two Beloved Venues, Fully Funded
December 2025
Some of the most enduring moments at Estes Park Center happen when people gather in community — for a concert, a ceremony, a performance that stays with you long after you've gone home. Two of the spaces where those moments happen most are about to get significantly better.
YMCA of the Rockies is pleased to announce that renovations for both Hempel Auditorium and the Kathie Mennel Amphitheater are now fully funded, with completion on track for summer 2026. Both projects are part of Arts at Altitude at Estes Park Center — an initiative focused on strengthening performing arts programming and supporting a wide range of experiences for guests and artists.
The Hempel Auditorium renovation is made possible through the collective generosity of several YMCA families who wish to remain anonymous. Their investment enhances the auditorium's functionality for performances, programs, and community use.
Upgrades to the Kathie Mennel Amphitheater are funded by John and Lauri Mennel and their family, who continue to honor the legacy of John's mother, Kathie Mennel, through their support of this cherished outdoor gathering space.
"Philanthropy plays a vital role in how we can serve families and conferences. Their generosity ensures that Estes Park Center remains a place where people can come together, be inspired, and create lasting memories."
— Julie Watkins, President and CEO, YMCA of the Rockies
