FAQs

Where is YMCA of the Rockies located?

YMCA of the Rockies is the name of our organization and has three physical locations in Colorado's Rocky Mountains:

  • Estes Park Center - located between the town of Estes Park, Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park.
  • Snow Mountain Ranch - located approximately 12 miles north of Winter Park in Grand County, Colorado.
  • Camp Chief Ouray - nestled in a private section of Snow Mountain Ranch's 5,100 acres.

Do you allow pets?

Pets are allowed in the 2-5 bedroom cabins, but are not allowed in the lodge rooms or the large retreat/reunion cabins that have 6-16 bedrooms. 2 pet maximum. There is a $10/pet/night fee.  We have many trails on our grounds that are dog- friendly for dogs on leashes.

Lost & Found?

We know you don't mean to leave your items behind, but if you do, please contact:

Items are held for 14 days and then donated to an appropriate charity.

Are you open year-round?

Yes.  We would love to host your family vacation, youth group, conference or family reunion at any time of the year.

What is in the cabins?

Cabins have gas or electric heat, fully-equipped kitchens with refrigerator and stoves with ovens, microwaves are in all cabins (except 2 bedroom basic cabins at Estes Park Center),  telephones and one or more bathrooms.  Linens, bath and dish towels, dishes and cooking utensils are provided.  Cabins do not have TVs; TVs are only available in our vacation homes, which also come with a microwave and dishwasher.

What is in the lodge rooms?

Lodge rooms do not have cooking facilities or TVs.  Towels and bedding are provided.

Do you have handicapped-accessible cabins and lodge rooms?  How do I reserve one?

Yes, we have accessible cabins, lodge rooms and retreat cabins.  Unfortunately, it is not possible to reserve these accommodations online.  Please call our reservation staff at 1-800-777-9622 and we will be happy to help.

Do I have to be a member to make a reservation?

A membership is NOT required to make reservations.  Members of YMCA of the Rockies receive advanced reservation priority for one cabin per stay, plus a $15 per night discount.  Any YMCA member receives a $15 per night discount through the YMCA Away program.  You must provide proof of membership upon check-in.  Learn more about Membership here.

Will I have wireless internet and cell phone reception?

Both Estes Park Center and Snow Mountain Ranch have free wireless internet access in the central areas of the property.  The signal is strongest in the Administration Building and lodges.  Cell phone reception is dependent on the type of phone and service provider, but signals tend to be somewhat weak.  There are public phones available for guest use.

How far in advance can I make a group reservation?

Group reservations (for 15 or more) can be made up to two years in advance.  Advance Reservation Requests are accepted for dates that are more than two years away.  If you have questions, we are more than happy to help: 800-777-9622 or info@ymcarockies.org.

Why should I read the Program Bulletin when I check in?

The Program Bulletin is published every week to make it easy for you to schedule your fun activities.  From A to Z (archery to zipline) we'll keep you busy.  The Program Bulletin also contains information regarding special guest speakers, concerts, horseback riding, swimming pool, craft center schedules and more.

Can I recycle?

Yes!  There are recycling bins in various locations on grounds for paper, aluminum, plastic and glass.

What is your smoking policy?

We are proud to provide a clean-air environment.  Please respect our non-smoking policy in all facilities.  We provide special fire-safe ashtrays in several outdoor areas designated for smoking.

What is your alcohol policy?

Alcoholic beverages are not sold on-grounds and may be consumed only in the privacy of your room, cabin or group meeting space.

Do you allow Marijuana?

YMCA of the Rockies has a strict no marijuana policy. We are a mission-based organization where we build healthy spirit, mind and body - therefore we do not allow marijuana at Estes Park Center or Snow Mountain ranch.

Should I be concerned about the altitude?

Above 8,000 feet, oxygen is approximately 45% less dense and there is 50% to 80% less humidity than sea level.  Altitude sickness can affect anyone, regardless of age or fitness level.  Visitors from lower elevations may notice shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness, headaches and/or nausea.

To alleviate these symptoms, we recommend drinking plenty of water (64 ounces daily), get lots of rest, eat lightly and avoid caffeine and alcohol.  Ibuprofen and altitude sickness medication is available for purchase in our General Stores.
