Scout Badge Programs
Are you bringing a group of Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts to Snow Mountain Ranch? Do you want to work on your badges in the mountains? We will be glad to set up activities based on our current class offerings modified for the specific badge. Please contact the outdoor education department to discuss options!
Our 5,000-acre site has a variety of teaching areas and while we have a specific class list, if you have an idea and want something taught, our creative staff can develop a lesson plan that meets your educational needs.
Scouts may need to complete some of the activities on their own (such as activities that involve observation over time).
Boy Scout Merit Badges:
Art
Come join us for a weekend in the mountains. Scouts will earn their merit badge in our craft shop as well as out in the field (weather permitting) as well as have opportunities to participate in other activities. Please call the craft shop at extension 4007 for craft information.
Climbing
Scouts will learn the basics of climbing from rope care to belaying, and then climb on our climbing wall. *Scouts will learn how to rappel and practice in our gym, however we do not have a rappelling area. Scouts should have their first aid requirements completed beforehand.
Geology
Visit our authentic gold mine and learn all about how geology rocks our world.
Nature
Sections completed include mammals, plants, soils and rocks and reptiles and amphibians.
Orienteering
Learn the skills needed to complete one of our courses as well as set courses for each other. Scouts are responsible for finding additional events to participate in.
Snow Sports
Join us to earn your snow sports badge at one of the premier Nordic ski centers in the country. Scouts should have their first aid requirements completed beforehand.
Soil and Water Conservation
Soil and water are two things we couldn’t do without here on earth, come learn about what can be done to help preserve them for the future. Scouts will spend time in our managed forest and learn about our wastewater treatment plant. Unless another option is discussed we will make a list of places in your neighborhood, camps, school ground, or park having erosion, sedimentation, or pollution problems and describe what could be done. We are glad to find a place for planting trees or shrubs on our property.
Wilderness Survival
A serious, but fun badge to earn – build a debris hut or a quinzhee in the snow! Scouts should have their first aid requirements completed beforehand.
Girl Scout Badges:
Below are listed activities from Snow Mountain Ranch Curriculum that we feel best match up with the activities listed in the Junior Girl Scout Badge Book. The book states that six activities should be completed for each badge. For some badges we offer six possibilities, others we may have one or more activities to help you on our way. We have a great setting to complete many of the activities without our help; also our craft shop has many options to help you on your way. We are glad to develop programs for a specific badge your group may be working on.
