Family Program and Recreation Positions

ROPES COURSE/CLIMBING WALL INSTRUCTOR (summer only) + D Facilitates people of all ages and abilities through a low and high element ropes course and 30 foot climbing tower. Must be able to physically facilitate courses. Must have knowledge of knots and belay systems. Regularly lifts up to 30 lbs. up to shoulder height.

CRAFT & DESIGN CENTER INSTRUCTOR (all seasons) Teaches painting on silk, tie-dye, leather, basket making, mosaics, jewelry construction, and more in a lively atmosphere to people of all ages and abilities. Must be outgoing, friendly, and enjoy arts & crafts. Prior experience in arts & crafts not necessary.

CRAFT & DESIGN CENTER CASHIER (summer only, 1 position) Responsible for daily cash flow of Craft & Design Center. Writes receipts, makes change, balances cash drawer.

LIBRARIAN (summer only) Checks books in and out. Performs book and shelf maintenance. Answers questions about library programs and books. Lifts up to 20 lbs. up to four feet. Supports guest programs. Must be willing to work nights and weekends.

MUSEUM ASSISTANT (2 summer positions, 24 hour per week volunteer in winter) Works in the Estes Park Center’s Lula W. Dorsey Museum. Greets guests and provides information on YMCA and local history. Assists with artifact and archival preservation and day-to-day operation of the museum.

LIFEGUARD (all seasons) + Supervises indoor pool with maximum capacity of 100. Must hold current lifeguard certification from either American Red Cross or YMCA.

RECREATION ATTENDANT (all seasons, 3 positions) Supervises mini-golf, tennis, roller-skating and gym activities. Check in and out equipment. Communicates rules and safety guidelines. Assists with cleaning facilities.

HIKEMASTER/ NATURALIST (summer only) + D Leads hikes into RMNP and the surrounding national forest areas for guests and YMCA staff. Must have outdoor leadership skills and experience. Must possess strong hiking background. Certifications through CMC, NOELS, OWB, WEA, AMGA desirable but not necessary. Willing to work in all weather conditions. Prefer previous knowledge of Estes Park, RMNP and EPC. Wilderness First Aid Certification and CPR required. Hike master Training available on-site.

ROCK CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR (summer only + D Teach beginner and intermediate rock climbing to children aged 12-18 attending the YMCA Day Camp Program. Teach and facilitate rock climbing classes to family and private groups. Must posses technical rock climbing skills to physically lead climb both sport and traditional routes, setup multiple top rope anchor systems. Must have strong outdoor leadership skills and experience. Must have previous experience working as a rock climbing instructor/ropes course facilitator and have interest working in a day camp setting. Ability to direct and supervise other day camp counselors at climbing sites. Certification through university programs, NOELS, OWBS or AMGA desirable. Willingness to work outside everyday.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR (Spring & Fall only) + Teaches outdoor education classes to elementary and middle school students. Plans, instructs and supervises classes including water and forestry ecology, geology, animal adaptations, cultural history, hikes, night hikes/campfires and adventure based programs. Develop new classes, create materials and document curriculum. Must have education in natural sciences, outdoor recreation, leisure studies, teaching or related field. First Aid and CPR required. Spring dates: March 19th – June 1st, 2007 Fall dates: August 20th – November 16th, 2007.

FAMILY PROGRAMMER: Plans, schedules and conducts programs for guests of all ages. Must also assist the Sweet Memorial Program Desk.

SWEET MEMORIAL DESK: Answers guest questions regarding the YMCA, Rocky Mountain National Park and general area. Uses office equipment including computers and computerized cash register, sells merchandise, balancing cash drawer and maintaining accurate accounting through daily reprots. Stocks merchandise and light cleaning of the general area.
