Trekker Trips

Boundary Waters Canoeing (Ages 14-16)
Come to CCO for a few days of teambuilding and preparation before traveling to Northern Minnesota for a unique and incredible backcountry trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). We will spend several days canoeing through the beautiful Northwoods near the Canadian border with a trained guide from YMCA Camp Menogyn. We’ll plan our own route through pristine lakes, paddle 10 to 15 miles each day, learn to portage our gear, and experience one of the most magical wilderness areas in the United States.

Boundary Waters: June 21-July 3 (Sessions 2-3)

Surf & Turf (Ages 14-16)
This exciting program combines exploration of the canyons of the Southwest with a trip to the Pacific Ocean. The first week we will spend several days stopping at many of the spectacular parks in Utah for day hikes and camping. During the second week we venture to YMCA Camp Surf in San Diego, CA, where the group will be instructed in surfing, kayaking, sailing, and other water-based activities.

Surf & Turf: June 28-July 11 (Sessions 3-4 with special check-out on Saturday)

San Juan Sea Kayaking (Ages 14-16)
Campers will travel to Orcas Island in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Washington. At YMCA Camp Orkila, campers will explore the San Juan Islands in sea kayaks, and learn the basics of navigation, paddling, and seamanship in the Orkila Kayakers program. CCO campers will also have an opportunity to hike and explore in the wilderness areas of the Pacific Northwest.

San Juan Sea Kayaking: July 9-24 (Sessions 4-6 with special check-in on Thursday)

Wind River Mountains (Ages 14-16)
Spend 8-days/7-nights backpacking and hiking challenging terrain in Wyoming's beautiful Wind River mountain range. Participants will receive a thorough introduction to navigating with a map and compass, cooking in the outdoors, selecting campsites, and group leadership.

Wind Rivers: July 19-31 (Sessions 6-7)

Hike to Climb (Ages 14-16)

Camp Chief Ouray is proud to offer this exciting adventure again this year. The group will spend 5-days/4-nights backpacking in the Northwestern Colorado Rockies. Our time in the wilderness will culminate with a 2-day introduction to rock climbing — gear supplied — and a tyrolean traverse over a 75-foot waterfall — AWESOME!

Hike to Climb: August 2-14 (Sessions 8-9)

**International** TREKKER PERU (Ages 16-17)
Camp Chief Ouray is excited to offer an international Trekker adventure to Peru again in 2009. Once again 10 lucky campers will explore the culturally rich capital city of Lima, Peru and its surrounding areas in an adventure in partnership with the Lima, Peru YMCA. This trip is more than a vacation, but a life-long experience that includes adventure, culture and community service. Campers will learn to Salsa dance at the Lima YMCA, enjoy the sensational flavors of Peruvian cuisine, tour pre-Incan ruins, and volunteer with local children and families as part of the YMCA Social Development Programs. All campers must have completed a Leadership Training Program at CCO and exhibit a high level of leadership, maturity and enthusiasm for international travel.
