2008 Theme Weeks
Each week at Camp Chief Ouray is centered around a theme. We will have activities and events that focus on the themes and the staff often dress up to play related characters. Find your session below and feel free to bring an outfit to fit the theme if you wish (Note: This isn’t required, but it makes camp a lot more fun!)
Session 1:Pirate Week - Argh Matey! Join us for a week of sailing the seas with Captain Hook and his swashbuckling friends. Be careful or you might end up walking the plank!
Session 2: Cartoon Week - Who knows who might be dropping by this week? We might see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Care Bears, SpongeBob SquarePants, or Scooby Doo!
Session 3: Home of the Brave - This week we will honor each of the 5 branches of the military. Test your skills flying paper airplanes with the Air Force, or have a water balloon fight with the Navy. Be all that you can be this week at camp!
Session 4: Holiday Week - It’s the middle of summer, but we’ll be partying like its Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day, and maybe even Groundhogs Day. Of course we’ll have a big Fourth of July Celebration, so bring your Red, White and Blue!
Session 5: Time Warp Week -Join us for a whirlwind tour of music, fashion, and life through the decades. From the early decades of Swing through Disco and Rock & Roll, we’ll rock out to the best (and the worst) of them all. Prepare your voices for karaoke, dress in your vintage clothes and big hair, and get ready to rock & roll.
Session 6:Superhero Week - Up in the air, is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a low-flying camper on the zip-line? No, it’s Super-hero week. Have you ever wanted to meet, or become your favorite superhero? Many heroic characters will be stopping by to save camp from the evil villains. Will you be here to help?
Session 7: Wild West Week -Yee-Haw! Saddle up those ponies, throw on some chaps, lace up those boots, and grab that cowboy hat. This week will include rodeos, stage coaches, bandits, and some cowboy music that would bring tears to Daniel Boone’s eyes.
Session 8: CCO Goes to Hollywood - Smile for the paparazzi as you make your way down the Red Carpet in your most fashionable attire. CCO is going to the movies! Prepare yourself for a ride through this year’s blockbusters and great classics.
Session 9: Olympic Sports Week - Beijing has nothing on CCO! We'll honor the Olympics with our own opening ceremony, and play lots of games and events throughout the week. Compete for the torch (a.k.a. the spirit stick) with your cabin and bring home the gold! Be sure to bring a bed sheet to create your own toga!
Mini Camp: Dr. Seuss Week - Would you, could you with a goat? On a boat? In the Rain? Or on a train? While at camp this crazy week, so many Seuss friends you will meet. Sam-I-Am and The Cat in the Hat...who could be more fun at camp than that!
