 What activities will I do?

While you are at camp you will have the opportunity to particpate in the following activities:  archery, riflery, arts and crafts, sports and games, low ropes, swimming, hiking, and camp craft.  If you are at least 9 years old you can sign up to go rafting, and if you are at least 12 years old you can sign up to participate in our high ropes course.  If you like horses you can also sign up for our horseback riding program, or just a one time trail ride for an additional cost.

What do we do at night?

In the evenings you will have a blast participating in our all-camp activities!  These activities include ROWDIE Campfire, All-Camp Games/Theme Activities, Campout Night, All-Camp Dance, and Closing Campfire.

What will the theme for my camp session be?

We have not yet selected the themes for the upcoming summer.  You will receive a newsletter before camp begins called "The Saddlebag" which will tell you what themes we will be having this summer.  Some of the theme weeks we have had in past years include:  Superhero Week, Wild West Week, Pirate Week, CCO Goes to Hollywood, Holiday Week, Olympic Week, and Super Spy Week.  Your counselors might dress up like fun characters during the week and you are encouraged to bring an outfit or costume to join in the fun!

What do the cabins look like?

Most of the cabins have electricity, but no running water.  There is a bathhouse a short walk from the cabin that has toilets, sinks, and shower facilities.  Each cabin has a large room with bunk beds for 8-10 campers and a small counselor room.

Can I be in the same cabin with my friend?

You may make one roommate request on your registration form when you sign up for camp but placement is not guaranteed.  CCO makes every effort to honor your request provided if both campers request each other and are within one grade level, or one year of age.

What if I don’t know anybody in my cabin?

Our counselors are trained to help all the campers in a cabin feel welcome from the moment they get to camp.  Camp Chief Ouray believes that each camper will have a better camp experience by not requesting a cabin mate.  We place campers in cabins based on grade level and age so even if you don’t know anyone when you arrive, you will quickly make new friends.
